The Advent Service served as the devotional.
The minutes were approved with corrections.
The association will continue to meet at St. Luke’s during 2018.
The Advent services were not released to the paper. J Hamilton will make sure it goes in the next issue, and will work to this in the future.
A schedule for the Devotions was adopted.

A $1000 donation was approved to Side by Side.
It was decided to contribute $50 per month to Jeremiah House for gas cards.
Dela will send a report to the Nugget regarding the activities of the Association.
Gerhard Michael was elected president elect to take office as president in January 2019
Discussion was held on the CHP health initiative grant. A discussion was held on the possibility of a Bible Study on health issues. G Michael was encouraged to prepare a Biblical resource on health as a spiritual issue that would appeal to the local independent Baptist churches.
We discussed the bylaws. They had been written by G Michael, however they are currently misplaced.
Della will speak to Sam Norton about repairing the sign on North Grove which says “Dahlonega Churches Welcome You”
NOA is looking for a handyman, someone who can do small jobs. The person will need to pass a background check. Please provide names to Della.

Robin led us in a devotion on Ephesians 4:1
Stephen Schofield will contact Dela Lago to design the poster and we will get hard covers and pdf for the pastors.
Minutes approved with corrections
Pastor Michael reported on Reformation Day. The presentations were very worthwhile, especially in his estimation the talk by Prof. Garcia entitled Solo Agape Dei. The film is scheduled for the Hoag Auditorium on Nov. 2 at 7PM. The film might also be available for loan from the History Department at UNG.
Father John will do a poll of members and bi-vocational pastors for alternative meeting times and technological ways of connecting.
Jeremiah Place has asked us to do things for Christmas. They are asking for gas cards. Fiona from JP says clients need gas money to get to their jobs. She is asking the churches to provide these cards for her to distribute as needed. To be put on Agenda for next time.
The Health Initiative Report is being finalized. There is a need for public health proposals.
No Devotional in December because of the Service

The Advent theme is Awake. Using the Common Lectionary, the theme is Watch or Awaken. The group liked Awaken better. Using the idea of Awaken (especially in regard to unity and community), we could consider the image of the Advent Wreath: Awaken to Faith Awaken to Hope, Awaken to Joy, and Awaken to Love.

Why are we meeting at 12:45 PM Currently. It is decided we meet at 11 AM on the first Wednesdays.

Health Initiative Report: CHP needs good input for the design of a program to improve the health of the county. 25% of the county is churched, 75% is not. Could we interview people in the churches using interview questions to help determine what the needs are in our community.
Our impression is that there is need in mental health care area and addiction. People who are getting out of jail with mental health issues and addiction issues and they have no where else to go.
Charlotte Arsenault is organizing the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on December 13th
Steve is going to represent the DLMCA at the Dedication of the New Habitat House 11:30 AM, Friday, October 6th at Lumpkin County High School.
We reviewed the financial reports. We hope to do a budget. We have a reserve of $5,000.00.
Could we do some kind of educational event for clergy. This came up in our discussion of the Reformation Celebration.
Robin Parr will do the devotion next week.

Frank Colloday led the opening prayer and gave a meditation from a book entitled Jesus Now by Brandt discussing the difference between power and leadership.
Minutes were corrected and approved.
JoAnne Duvall introduced the group to Stephen’s Ministers and provided some helpful handouts. They are available in the pdf file on the blog page. Stephens ministers assist by visiting persons in need of long term pastoral care for illness, bereavement or other concerns. She offers the services of the Stephen Ministers at Dahlonega United Methodist Church.
Susan Burrell and Andrea Friesen came and presented information about Mountain Education Charter High School’s trip to Washington DC and Andrea, a student, showed us her pictures.
We were reminded of the Immigration forum to take place on Saturday, Sept. 16th.
Gerhardt “Mike” Michael told us all about the wonderful possibilities on Tuesday, October 24, beginning with a presentation at St. Peter Lutheran at 10:00 A.M. with gathering for pastries, coffee, etc. at 9:30 A.M. The main lecture will be at 12 noon at the Hoag Student Center Auditorium, being given by Dr. Scott Hendrix, retired professor of Reformation History at Princeton University, followed by a luncheon for clergy and other religious leaders (Directors of Christian Education, et al) until 3:30 P.M. It is designed to give us an opportunity to dialog with Dr. Hendrix. The luncheon will be hosted in Banquet Room B in the Dining Hall. Please pre-register with Mike, so they can have the proper amount of food prepared. He also brought a handout which is available in the handouts attachment. Frank Colladay reported on Lumpkin Youth Leadership and the Lumpkin County Eduation Foundation. The handouts are in the attachment. We voted to contiribute $400 to Leadership in Action. Proposed by Colloday, seconded by Michael, carried.

We have $13,360.91 in the account, a portion of which is reserved for Side by Side

John Hamilton led an opening prayer and meditation
We welcomed new member, Robin Parr, Associate Pastor and Dahlonega United Methodist Church. We learned The C.R. Hill has been named pastor of Wesley Chapel, Stephen Matta has been named pastor at Pleasanat Grove, UMC, and David Bost at St. Paul UMC.
We welcomed Jessica Dudley who updated us on the Health Care Foundation 5 year grant and on the initial research grant for $65K to determine from community input what the leading health need of our county is. She updated us on the Gold Party and the need for a third board member from the DLCMA.
Frank Colloday moved that we sponsor the Gold Party for $500, sponsor a table fo 6 tickets for $440 and make a donation of $60 for a total of $1000. Mike Michaels seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. We thus have 8 tickets to give away for the Gold party.
John Hamilton moved that we nominate John Matejek for the CHP board, pending his willingness to serve. In this way the CHP board can elect him without waiting on us to act at the next meeting. Frank Colloday seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. Steve Schofield agreed to reach out to Father John.
We welcomed Butch Walker and Sandy Shea who reported on the work of Side by Side. He reported that in addition to the workday Side by Side has accomplished over 300 missions. This includes 130 wheelchair ramps.
We were asked to recognize the volunteers and the work of Side by Side in our churches.
On Friday, September 22 at Noon there will be a house blessing for Habitat of Humanity.
John Hamilton and Mike McCormack askjed the Association if they would support a forum on the challenges facing immigrants today, and what resources are available to assist them. The group that would do the presentation is Faith in Action. The date September 13th was suggested as a good one for the Forum. Mike McCormack will follow through on this.
Frank Colloday shared thank you notes that were received from Mountain Education Charter School for the donation of $600 we gave so that they could finance their trip to Washington D.C. See a link here for the letter.
The treasurer passed around a finance report. The current balance of the account is $14,542.67 less the $5,613 that is designated for Side by Side, this leaves $8,386. See the Finance Report here.
John Hamilton invited the group to his installation on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:00 PM.
Della Lago concluded the meeting with prayer.
