Frank Colloday led the opening prayer and gave a meditation from a book entitled Jesus Now by Brandt discussing the difference between power and leadership.


Minutes were corrected and approved.


JoAnne Duvall introduced the group to Stephen’s Ministers and provided some helpful handouts. They are available in the pdf file on the blog page. Stephens ministers assist by visiting persons in need of long term pastoral care for illness, bereavement or other concerns. She offers the services of the Stephen Ministers at Dahlonega United Methodist Church.


Susan Burrell and Andrea Friesen came and presented information about Mountain Education Charter High School’s trip to Washington DC and Andrea, a student, showed us her pictures.


We were reminded of the Immigration forum to take place on Saturday, Sept. 16th.


Gerhardt “Mike” Michael told us all about the wonderful possibilities on Tuesday, October 24, beginning with a presentation at St. Peter Lutheran at 10:00 A.M. with gathering for pastries, coffee, etc. at 9:30 A.M. The main lecture will be at 12 noon at the Hoag Student Center Auditorium, being given by Dr. Scott Hendrix, retired professor of Reformation History at Princeton University, followed by a luncheon for clergy and other religious leaders (Directors of Christian Education, et al) until 3:30 P.M. It is designed to give us an opportunity to dialog with Dr. Hendrix. The luncheon will be hosted in Banquet Room B in the Dining Hall. Please pre-register with Mike, so they can have the proper amount of food prepared.  He also brought a handout which is available in the handouts attachment. He also brought a handout which is available in the handouts attachment.


Frank Colladay reported on Lumpkin Youth Leadership and the Lumpkin County Eduation Foundation. The handouts are in the attachment. We voted to contiribute $400 to Leadership in Action. Proposed by Colloday, seconded by Michael, carried.


It was decided to hold the Advent services beginning in the weeks preceding the respective Sunday in Advent. Namely,


November 28th
December 5th
December 12th
December 19th


An emailing will be used to receive nominations for a theme.


We have $13,360.91 in the account, a portion of which is reserved for Side by Side


Next Meeting Wed. Oct. 4, 2017 at 12:45 pm at St. Luke's RC Church


Father Matejek will do the opening devotion.
